Born Magazine pairs writers with designers to collaborate on visual poetry projects. They were looking for an unexpected online treatment for collaborative poetry. In lieu of a direct visual representation, we invented a universal poem reader that uses the collective associations made possible by the Internet to create a unique representation at each reading, by pulling images directly from Flickr to correspond to each word. This interface makes a dialog possible among the poet’s words, Flickr photographers, and the reader – spontaneously, at each reading.
